"Easy Street" may not be in your Ipod today, but a trip to Rafters in Orange Beach after the Jason Aldean Concert Thurday at The Wharf may change that.
A modern country band based out of Bowling Green, Ky, Easy Street has been performing rigorously throughout the Midwest and southeast, captivating crowds from 200 to 2,500. Comprised of five dedicated and talented members born and raised in Kentucky, Easy Street is: Brent Rupard - lead vocals and guitar, Anthony Olympia - lead guitar and vocals, Dave Erickson - guitar, ganjo, and vocals, Matt Rich - Bass, and T.J. Craig - drums.
Easy Street has been going strong since 2007, having traveled from Cincinnatti, OH, to Orange Beach, AL, and everywhere in between performing at night clubs, college bars, festivals, casinos, arenas, etc. Two years in a row they performed at Bowling Green's Balloons, Tunes, and BBQ where in 2009 they opened up for Justin Moore ("Small Town USA"), and in 2010 did the same for Rhett Akins.
Also in 2009, Easy Street was on the same ticket as John Anderson and Joey & Rory, performing at the Poage's Landing Days summer festival in Ashland, KY. Later that year, the band shared the stage with country music stars Josh Thompson and Chris Young at Western Kentucky University's Agricultural Expo Center. In Nashville, they have performed at both the Tin Roof and Dan McGuinness Pub.
In March of 2010, Easy Street won first place at French Lick Casino's $10,000 Country Battle of the Bands. This contest included a selected field of sixteen bands squaring off head to head for both a $10,000 purse and a contract to four future performances at the casino.
Easy Street has independently released two EPs, and the first was The Bullitt County Sessions released in February of 2009. Easy Street's second EP, One More Time, was released in January of 2011. Around the debut of each recording, they were featured on Bowling Green's WBKO Midday Live television show to promote their release.
One More Time, Easy Street's second EP, was recorded in August of 2010 at Harrison Entertainment Group Studios in Gallatin, TN. This release includes eight original songs featuring memorable words and melodies with an attractive twang, slinky yet sometimes nostalgic guitar sounds, and compelling arrangements with a distinctive drive. Listening closely, one would recall influences such as Keith Urban, Eric Church, Diamond Rio, and even the Eagles.
Along with the release of One More Time, Easy Street has big plans for 2011 and beyond. The band is still writing new material and shaping their own unique sound a little more in every new compostion. As their music reaches further out into the Midwest and southern states, Easy Street hopes that more and more listeners will be joining the bandwagon.

Looking for a casual dining atmosphere with an upscale twist? City Grill is the spot. Opened in 2010 in the former Sunset Cork Room location, this eclectic little eatery has something for everyone. From lunch to late night, City Grill offers a uniquely appetizing menu and a staff so friendly, you will feel at home your first visit.
The ABC Panini ($7.25) and the Goat Cheese Salad ($7.50) are my lunch time favorites, but one of the most popular menu items is the stuffed burger. The Bourbon Street Burger ($7.50) has a cajun kick some people really go nuts over, myself included.
If your taste is for seafood or steak, City Grill does it right. The Ahi Tuna Steak ($19) is well prepared and generously portioned with a tasty wasabi cream sauce that wakes up the palette. The 8oz Hand Cut Filet ($26) is tender, flavorful, and only gets better when you add a steak topping selection like the peppercorn mustard cream sauce. Don’t forget the sides. The rosemary new potatoes, the sautéed garlic mushrooms, or the smoked gouda grits are just a few of the dishes that add a delicious compliment to any entree.
More of a night owl? This hip hangout serves over 25 microbrews and high gravity beers which pair well with the late night menu. The place gets hopping on nights when they have live music, so be sure to check their website for the latest updates on happenings at City Grill.

Here are the most current health rating for Orange Beach from the Alabama Department of Public Health. Standout establishment scoring a 100 this month are: Rafters Restaurant and Sports Bar, Publix, and Grape Escape Deli. Here is an explanation of their scoring system and the results.
State law requires any facility selling food to have a current food service permit that is issued by the local county health department. Foodservice establishments are generally required to be inspected a minimum of three times per year depending on the type of food being prepared. The average convenience store may be inspected one time per year, again depending on the type of food sold there.
Inspection Reports and permits are required to be posted in conspicuous view within the establishment. A numerical scoring system on a 100-point scale is used with points deducted for each violation.
Critical violations have a higher point value and are identified in red on the inspection report. Critical items are required to be corrected as soon as possible but not to exceed ten days regardless of the overall score. Any food items found out of compliance with public health standards will be issued an order to discard regardless of the overall score.
The overall score determines the reinspection schedule and the use of enforcement actions:
Establishments scoring between 85 and 100 are considered to be in satisfactory compliance and are inspected on routine schedule.
