From the couch of FES.

We are going to briefly talk about what I call one of the elimination games this weekend and that is when TCU travels to Utah. The loser in this game is obviously out of any chance for the national title. You have to admit TCU has really dominated more than anyone this season dominating the stats on both sides of the ball. Both teams have had one test this year, Utah beating Pitt in OT at home and TCU blowing out surprising Baylor at home.

Texas Christian Horned Frogs @ Utah Utes
3:30 PM Game Time Record Line Betting Trend
Teams Win-Loss Streak Open Current Spread Money O/U
371 Texas Christian (9-0) (3-0 A) W-9 -4.5 -5 64% 29% 87%
372 Utah (8-0) (4-0 H) W-8 51 36% 71% 13%

Utah just doesn't lose at home, at least not this century and I'm not bucking that trend until someone else does. Take Utah and the points Saturday.

Other games to play against the number: Hawaii, Maryland, New Mexico, Army, Illinois, and Baylor

From the couch of FES,

I want to take a moment to give some props to the Baylor Bears. They are bowl eligible for the first time since 1995. Their only losses this year has been to TCU and Texas Tech, but they have had their way with the big 12 so far. This week they travel to Austin to face Texas and what a cliff the longhorns have fallen off of.

Baylor Bears @ Texas Longhorns
7:00 PM Game Time Record Line Betting Trend
Teams Win-Loss Streak Open Current Spread Money O/U
135 Baylor (6-2) (2-2 A) W-2 53.5 32% 99% 92%
136 Texas (4-3) (1-2 H) L-1 -8 -7.5 68% 1% 8%

Just when you think they have gotten their act together they get blown out at home to Iowa St, ouch! I think Baylor has something going here especially on the momentum side so take the Bears and the points this weekend and congratulations, Baylor.

Other teams to play against the number:  Marshall, Georgia, Kansas St, W. Kentucky, and USC

From the couch of FES.

So did we learn anything from last week? Well, we did find out that I am horrible at picking college football games but am Pretty good at the pros. Lets see if we can keep that trend going. I want to get outside the SEC this week because I will definitely be back in there next week but one game that has my attention this week is Notre Dame hosting Stanford.
Stanford Cardinal @ Notre Dame Fighting Irish
3:30 PM Game Time Record Line Betting Trend
Teams Win-Loss Streak Open Current Spread Money O/U
345 Stanford (3-0) (1-0 A) W-3 -3.5 -4.5 85% 46% 73%
346 Notre Dame (1-2) (1-1 H) L-2 59 15% 54% 27%

It looks like it will be the same ole 7 or 8 win Notre Dame this year and will remain that no matter who the coach is. Stanford, on the other hand is quietly beating opponents down this year. I think this team has a very good shot to go undefeated this year but if they don't, I see them at least going to the Rose Bowl this season. Take Stanford in this matchup. I wouldn't trust Notre Dame as far as a could throw them.
Other teams to look at regarding the number:  California, N.C. State, Idaho, South Carolina, Minnesota, and Rice.

Once again the best time of the year is upon us with the start of the 2010 college football season. In the following weeks to come I will give everyone a little insight on who to pick in their office pools but first lets get a couple of those most frequently asked questions out of the way.

The biggest question in this region will be will Alabama repeat as national champions? My bet is no. Since 1994 only USC, and one year that was a split national championship, has been able to claim that feat. Nebraska has been the only team to repeat as national champions with an undefeated record both years, 1993 and 1994 in this time span.  Alabama will have a tall order this year with a much tougher schedule as well as six of their opponents will be facing Alabama with a week off. A daunting task but if done they will certainly deserve it. Another question that everybody seems to wonder and I dont know why is will the little guy  get into the big game? There is a possibility this year. Both Boise State and TCU are ranked in the top six. That is a lot higher start for the little schools than in years past so the chance is there.

Which leads to the week's most intruiging match up as Boise visits Virginia Tech. Keep in mind when you pick this game that Boise State in the past ten years has not had much success travelling east of the Mississippi going 3 - 5 in those games with the three wins being C.Michigan, Bowling Green, and S.Miss. My thoughts lean towards Virginia Tech. Enjoy this college football season. It will be a fun one as usual and it is finally here. I will be writing a piece once a week with some odds and ends for your college and pro football expertice.
